The popular brothers are the sons of Merchant  John Vassmer, of Kauneonga Lake, and both assisted in the store  before going with Uncle Sam. Fred, the elder, who was recently promoted to sergeant, has been stationed in Panama nearly two years.

Bernard, crack bass fisherman and baseball player, was wounded in the Tunisian campaign, receiving the Purple Heart, and later fought in Sicily.
