Joan Brooks & Bobby
Kane
 |
The lovely and talented Joan Brooks makes Bethel her seasonal
residence. And while she is here, she graces Bethel by her volunteer performance for town
and other organizations.
Joan's career included working as a strolling Accordionist/Singer; singing
in churches and synagogues as a mezzo soloist; teaching choral music in Jericho, NY;
teaching Music and Music education at C.W. Post college.
Joan is also a choir director and organist. |
| During the Catskills' heyday, Bobby Kane worked as comic and social
director at hotels whose names you'd recognize. He honed his skills for these stints
working as comedy MC in nightclubs with Al Hibbler, Don Cornell, Sam Cooke and the Ink
Spots among other famous performers. GIs in World War II's European and North African
theaters of war saw him, too, as a peripatetic performer in USO shows. Virginia Emerson
makes guest appearances at music clubs on Long Island. The Philadelphia native toured with
stock companies, eventually joining national companies of "The Pajama Game" and
"The Sound of Music."
Start celebrating the holidays early - join us for this afternoon of mirth, music and
memory. |

Joan's career also included teaching classical voice; conducting two
choruses in Florida, where she resides for part of the year. She is also a founder and
writer of music for the singing Grand-mamas - a comedy act which tells of life - as they
see it. She appears with them in New York and in Florida.
