levinson1.jpg (23842 bytes)My Grandparents, James T.& Mary (Lindsey) Lynn, ran the Lake Side House on the shores of White Lake for many years. Being born in 1943, I recall the 1950's there best visiting my widowed Grandmother. Old timer's may remember the smells of the old boat motors that used a gasoline/castoroil mix wafting in the air from the boats on the lake, not unpleasant and the droning sound of those motors, places all around the lake with colored lights at nights, little newspaper & candy stand across from the Old Mansion House on 17B, the Ritz summer movie theater, Al and Hazel Barber's Beach, the Fiesta & little soda shop next to it.

You might recall popular comedian SAM LEVINSON of that day was a well known summer "Local", my Grandmothers favorite. She encountered him one day in the small White Lake Post Office just west of the Lighthouse Restaurant and was so flustered she couldn't speak. Later that summer, when he appeared at a festival of some sort, my Father literally picked her up and delivered Grandma to Mr. Levinson who was gracious, and as funny in person as he was on TV. Grandma was elated. My Uncle Harold Kinnie ran a farm, first one in on the Black Lake Road but lived next to my Grandmother, whose sister Alice was Mrs. Harold Kinne. A great time & place!
